Fun Facts!

Peru is known as the alpaca capital of the world, being home to 85% of the entire world’s alpaca population! Despite it being a “traveler favorite”, the vicuña is actually Peru’s national animal. On a side note, Peru is known to be the birthplace of the potato, boasting around 4,000+ unique varieties across the region.

Did you know that Machu Picchu translates to “Old Mountain”? The entire historic sanctuary spans over 80,500 acres, and only 40% of the wonder is visible above the ground! This royal estate was built for the Inca Emperor Pachacuti and his royal subjects, serving as both a residence and a sacred place to worship the Inca gods.

Oh, and did you know there are more than 4,000 varieties of potatoes in Peru!?

Our 8-Day itinerary

Day 1: Welcome to Peru!

We had a lovely 3-course dinner with our group at Nuna Raymi restaurant. While enjoying authentic Peruvian flavors, we took the opportunity to remind everyone of the fun still to come and brief the group on the wonderful places we are going to visit!

Day 2: Walk Through Time in Cusco

It was so fun and informative to walk through ancient ruins—Tambomachay, Puka Pukara, Q’enqo, and Sacsayhuamán. Our tour guide led us through scenic landscapes while explaining the history of the Cusco Ruins. This is definitely a must-visit for tourists!

Day 3: Sacred Valley: Markets & Makers

The group enjoyed the breathtaking view of the Sacred Valley, explored the Pisac market that is filled with arts and crafts, and learned about Inca culture.

Upon arrival at the Amarú Community, we were greeted by the lovely local women, who introduced us to their traditional art of weaving and the handling of South American camelid fibers.

Day 4: Journey to Machu Picchu

Machu Picchu was beautiful and memorable! It was a reminder of how incredible our world is!

Day 5: Hike Machu Picchu

Another day to explore more of this amazing wonder of the world. We hiked a lot—and it was worth it! We had a breathtaking view of the ruins and the majestic Andes mountains.

Day 6: Ollantaytambo, Terraces & Salt Flats

The Ollantaytambo ruins were majestic! The guided vehicle tour allowed us to enjoy the scenery, feel the wind on our faces, and appreciate the extraordinary Peruvian culture. The visit to Moray was an eye-opener for us as we explored these terraces and gained insight into the ingenious agricultural practices that sustained the ancient civilization.

Day 7: Peruvian Cooking Class & Farewell Dinner

The cuisine was just delicious—so naturally, we needed to know how to make it ourselves! In the San Pedro market, accompanied by a professional chef, we picked the freshest ingredients to cook our recipes. After a brief market tour, we learned how to cook our Peruvian favorites! Once the table was set, we feasted on the delights we had learned to cook. This was a highlight of the trip!

Day 8: Wave Goodbye to Your Newfound Friends!

All good trips must come to an end—for now! Together with our new friends, we laughed and shared memorable stories during breakfast.

Our trip to Peru was successful, fun, and historic. Not only did we get to spend the summer with some of the most amazing people, but we also got to learn new things.
