We love and value two things: aviation and helping people! We’re incredibly fortunate to have recently crossed paths with a non-profit that shares our core values and commitment. This non-profit organization is Elevated Access. They have flown over 2.2 million miles to assist passengers needing urgent healthcare support—an incredible testament to the power of community and raising awareness. It is our pleasure to introduce you to the organization that cares… and doesn’t judge your circumstances.
Watch our recent episode with Reid & Alé from Elevated Access about How Volunteer Pilots are Changing Lives Across America!
What is Elevated Access?
Launched in 2022, Elevated Access is a non-profit organization that supports people needing urgent healthcare by providing flights at zero cost. Licensed volunteer pilots operate these flights, ensuring that their passengers get the reproductive or gender-affirming care they deserve across the United States.
Their team is grounded on these 6 values:
- Each individual has the right to receive the care they need for their own body. It’s simple, really!
- People deserve access to all-around care.
- Healthcare saves lives, regardless of any political or religious rhetoric.
- They combat oppression and actively work toward a more equitable society.
- Community and working for the cause.
- Elevated Access puts the needs of the individual above anything else!
Currently, they have 1,000+ volunteer pilots, partner with more than 100 organizations, and enjoy growing support from major airlines. Truly, a good cause stands firm and grows faster than we know it.
Volunteer Pilots & The Access Gap
Elevated Access is actively recruiting volunteer pilots to expand their reach and help more individuals who urgently need inclusive care. Each active volunteer pilot undergoes a specific vetting process to ensure that passengers feel supported and safe on every single flight.
If you are a pilot who leads with empathy and believes in inclusive healthcare, sign up here!
Sometimes, it’s easy to forget that people in other communities lack access to the basic healthcare services many of us take for granted. Being sensitive to different realities is absolutely essential. Be grateful for the benefits or privileges you enjoy—because many individuals are actively fighting for the health, security, and easy access we have every day.
The Impact of Elevated Access
Their team has helped over 3,600 passengers travel to access critical gender-affirming and abortion care. Through their work, many lives have been saved, inspired, and reaffirmed! With over 2,800 flights completed and 500+ fully-vetted pilots ready for service, they continue to impact lives one flight at a time.
How You Can Help:
Did you know that 85% of their major donors are women-led organizations?
One of the best things about Elevated Access is that you don’t have to be a pilot or a healthcare provider to support this cause. Here are a few impactful ways to support the cause:
- Follow them on Instagram.
- Refer a pilot buddy! (Share these important Pilot FAQs with them.)
- Be part of their support team (ground crew, online support, tech, or events).
- Talk about their organization & tag the team in relevant discussions.
- Make a donation to support more flights!
Final Thoughts
Inclusion and access are two of the biggest obstacles in our country to date. As flight attendants, we spend our careers helping people get from one place to another. Most of the time, it’s for vacations, business trips, family visits, or long-awaited reunions, but organizations like Elevated Access remind us that aviation can be so much more than that.
We are doing our part to by using our platform to advocate for what is right and highlight social justice issues that are important to us. This month is about giving more and taking small steps toward creating meaningful change in the world we live in. Thank you for standing with us!
